Mathematics is important in everyday life. A high-quality mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
At Field Court Infant Academy we empower our children with a ‘CAN DO’ attitude. We encourage children to develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematics in a fun and inspiring way. We aim for all pupils to enjoy and achieve in mathematics and become confident mathematicians.
Our beliefs:
We believe that ability within Mathematics is not fixed. We are developing the mindsets of children and adults alike to develop a Growth Mindset and a ‘We Can’ attitude to Mathematics. We believe that through careful planning and delivery of personalised learning, as well as on going assessment, all children have the potential to ‘go deeper’ and broaden their understanding of mathematical concepts.
Our Maths curriculum:
At Field Court Infants we follow a Mastery Curriculum and use the scheme ‘Can Do Maths'. Mastery is not just being able to memorise key facts and procedures to answer test questions accurately and quickly. Mastery is pupils acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding which can be applied to new and unfamiliar situations.

· I like choosing what helps me. Sometimes I pick the teacher or my friend but I like picking Numicon or cubes too.
· Maths is more fun when it’s tricky
· Subtraction is my favourite.
· I like maths when its hard so I learn more.
· I love doing numbers in Forest school
· I am a can do cat in maths.
· My learning partner helps me. He helped me do some adding.
· I really like numbers and I like shapes. We draw shapes outside
· My favourite is writing in Maths and proving the teachers wrong.
